General
What is Collaborate For Research?
Collaborate for Research is a UK-based platform that connects medical students and junior researchers with senior consultants, researchers, and professionals from other disciplines. It supports networking, group collaboration, portfolio building, and research project matching.
Who is the platform for?
Collaborate for Research is designed for:
-
Medical students and junior researchers seeking experience or mentorship
-
Senior clinicians, researchers, and allied professionals offering support or supervising juniors to help carry out projects
-
Anyone interested in contributing to or learning from multidisciplinary research efforts
Joining & Using the Platform
How do I create an account?
Click “Join us” at the top of the site. You’ll be asked for your name, email, location, and a few details to help match you with relevant opportunities.
Do I need to be part of a university or hospital to join?
No — anyone involved in healthcare, research, or related fields is welcome, including independent contributors. To have a student or consultant/senior researcher membership, you will need to sign up with your organisational account and may be asked to provide evidence of your role.
Is there a fee to use the platform?
Fees start at £4.99 per month. This can be paid monthly or yearly. Anyone with a yearly membership or over 6 months of consecutive membership will be eligible to apply for any of the grants offered by Collaborate for Research.
Projects & Experts
How do I apply for a research project?
Visit the Browse Projects page, find one that you like, and click "Apply." You’ll need to be logged in to apply.
Can I post my own research idea?
Yes! Users can submit project ideas via a form on the site.
How do I become an “Expert” on the platform?
You can post an Expert Advert through a short form describing your area of expertise and availability (e.g., 30-minute support or ongoing mentoring). These appear on a searchable page.
Does signing up guarantee I’ll get a project?
No, signing up does not guarantee that you’ll be matched with a project.
While we aim to provide a wide range of opportunities, project availability depends on the number of active consultants and the specific needs of each project. We encourage you to check the platform regularly, keep your profile up to date, and apply to relevant opportunities as they become available. The more complete and professional your application, the better your chances of being selected.
